  • Three days after that epic session at Deadmans the Tasman Low was still in no hurry to leave instead setting up camp for a few days and continually pushing swelly goodness onto our fair shores. This session attracted the cream of the crop of the Northern Beaches surf fraternity with an ex-world champion in amongst former touring pros and the usual crew of hyper-talented free surfers.

I started at dawn and managed a few shots before the sun broke through the cloud cover. After that it became impossible to capture anything but heavily silhouetted photos so I headed for higher ground up on Collaroy Plateau. I was not alone but glad I made the trip anyway. The angle, elevation and interesting foregrounds offer up more than your usual run of the mill composition possibilities.

Having exhausted all potential angles I headed back down and set up slightly south of all the action. The light was better - not perfect - but not a bad trade-off considering the subjects being shot and the waves being ridden.

    Another one for the books.
