Super Bowl Sunday

  • Given the huge crowd and number of double overhead tubes popping up along the banks you would be forgiven for thinking you had been teleported to Hawaii’s North Shore rather than The Gardens. Unsurprisingly, this session quickly became known as Super Bowl Sunday a relatively short-lived session that totally ripped.

A keen, skilled band of surfers took on these towering beasts generated by a long period easterly swell powered by an east coast low sitting off the Central Coast of New South Wales. Additional assistance was provided by decent banks and a favourable offshore breeze.

The crew made it look super-easy to get shacked - it was not - as well as equally easy to misjudge the take-off, end up on the wrong side of the lip and be pile-driven into oblivion.
