  • The week began without a sign of anything significant on the horizon. Then it hit us - mega-sized swell and gale force winds materialised in a matter of hours on Friday afternoon fed by the fuel of a fast-developing Tasman Low. Charts lit up with deep purples and blacks foreshadowing the real potential for scoring serious waves and bruisings.

My day started at Dee Why Point with not a soul around. Same story at North Narrabeen except for the guns laid out on the grass in readiness for what was to come. Deciding to give it some time and check back later, I drove further north to find Warriewood punching way above its weight with clean, powerful lines refracting around the point.

Despite getting blocked by tall, messy shore break I managed to grab a few shots before touring back to North Narrabeen via Turmietta spotting the bommies running and a keen crew chasing them down. Knowing higher elevation was required I hiked into the lookout for a few shots then settled in on the balcony atop the rockpool amenities block to watch and capture the show.
